I agree, 30-40 minutes of constant/ continuous running is just no good!.. doing this simply burns muscle mass aswel as fat. The idea is, to burn fat but gain that muscle. So, how to do it?... short bursts of exercise is your answer!... something called 'interval training' which does just this. Something else that is also great is something called 'plyometrics' which is a type of training which involves all fast twitch muscle fibres responding together!... this in turn, promotes power, quicker reaction times... which will also improve your short distance running speed ie 100, 200 meters... obviously on top of all this is your abdominal workout haha! hope this was helpful!
